BEQUESTS

At the Living Tongues Institute, we strive to protect linguistic legacies in every way that we can. We want languages to live on for generations to come. Your legacy with Living Tongues can live on by continuing to support language documentation work far into the future.

A charitable bequest is one of the most powerful gifts a person can make, and it’s one of the easiest!

Bequests are gift you make in your will or your personal testament. They can be gifts of cash, stock, or other assets. Bequests have no effect on your immediate lifestyle and can always be updated if your financial situation changes. There is no minimum amount required for a bequest and the impact of this planned gift immortalizes you as a champion of language revitalization work. You would be surprised how much of an impact these gifts can have.

Bequests are important because the continue on your legacy with an organization you have diligently supported over the years. You can give to your heirs and still make an impact in the global language community. Some people bequest a certain percentage of their estate (say, 5% or 10% of the estate value) while others specify a certain dollar amount.

Your gift would ensure many more lifetimes of language documentation work and inspire others to do the same. Simply put in your will:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to the Living Tongues Institute For Endangered Languages, a Delaware, nonstock, nonprofit corporation, or its successor organization, the following assets [specific assets, dollar amount, percentage, or residuary].”

We would love to celebrate you and this gift as well as discuss what are some things you would like to be done with the gift if you are interested in doing so. We want to make this process as simple for you as possible. If you have any questions about the language for bequests or have other questions about planned giving, we would be happy to help!
